Feb 2008: 6:45pm
Group met at Camille's Sidewalk Cafe in Lancaster. Three people were at the meeting. These attendees may just be some of the most helpful ones in the group so we were generally able to answer most of each others questions. We easily connected to the internet and logged onto IRC. We expermented with Mandriva Compiz and you can see a few of the effects possible on this Mailing List entry.Do you have any questions or need help? At the command line (CL), use the man pages on your computer, refer to the User distros to see if someone in the group may already use your distro, go to the Support section of the distro you are using, or do a search on Yahoo or Google. In Konqueror, type man:/ and press [Enter] to access the manual entries as linked web pages. Also please note that some of our AVLUG experts are out-of-state, they're on the mail list, and they can probably answer the questions. Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Dec 2007: 6:45pm
Group met at Camille's Sidewalk Cafe in Lancaster. Great food, company AND WiFi! Eleven people were at the meeting which, although a little cramped, was fun and informative. Users shared their current distributions that they are using. Discussion centered around Ubuntu and how Mandriva mounted the windows partitions. We went over how to use and/or copy data from the windows partition by using Konqueror or some of the applications themselves as long as the user knew where the info was stored. In case I went too fast or you have any more questions, feel free to post to the Mail List or send the email directly to me. If the question is something that would benefit reader, I would feel justified in removing the name & posting the question to the group, if that's OK.
We touched on where the next meeting was to be held and whether the date was a problem. Remember, any suggestions or comments that you don't want posted publically in the Mail List Archive (for member privacy), may be sent directly to the persons you think know the answer or to the Mr GQ at gquinn.ext ( at ) gmail.com or me at caace (at) yahoo.com. Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Group of six met in the conference room where we lured a windows user to consider moving away from the dark side! ;-) Attendees asked questions and others shared their expertise in resolving the problem. These meetings are a great way to quick answers to user questions so it is great for all to attend and see the faces of those with which they are communicating. If you are new to the group, indicate your interest in attending (to an email address above ?) so we can consider topics to discuss. Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Jul 2007: 1:45 pm
Group met at Camille's Sidewalk Cafe in Lancaster. Five were in attendance: John H., Barry T., John A., Tranina G., & Don G. John H., new to Linux and a past programmer, brought his whole system and asked for help getting Linux to recognize his Epson printer. We plugged everything in but Barry T. and John A. suggested the problem was more related to an old distribution and not the hardware. I was blown away by what happened next. John A. cranked up his "wow" type Linux notebook and downloaded the current distribution (using a Verizon Wireless BroadbandAccess card) and burned it to CD. John A. didn't tell us his job level other than to, in conversation, say he hires programmers and directs their activities. I wish there had been some high skilled members for him to interact with. I was impressed, way out of my depth; maybe someone could call and invite him back. I got them to rate their own skill levels and his was Expert. [Meeting info provided by our President; although, slightly edited here.]

27 Jan 2007
We had the best attendance & meeting yet!!! Check out our attendance list. The initial discussion centered on our old, retiring, college-bound, president and our future, new, "volunteer" president, Don Glover. Thanks Don! Ideas were brought up on the best times and possible future meeting locations like the library or cultural center. Topics then went on to current distributions used by members and suggestions to 5 new users on how to install Linux on their desktops or laptops. A side group talked about drive designations and recommended partition sizes.
As our trend toward more hands-on sessions continues, more troubleshooting of user problems will be addressed. Please turn in suggestions or questions and Make this LUG work for you! Private email responses are welcome by (most of) our users. :-) |

various readily available within the group while the shop owner
installed Ubuntu LINUX on a PC. We talked about the simplicity of
installation and then tested out Ubuntu.
Group leaders most interested in creating a clustering system were not

for most! |

04 August 2005
Five people showed up for this meeting: Mr. Eguia, Mr. Inglima, Mr.
Stolz, Mr. Clark, and myself. The meeting lasted a little more than two
hours (7:45-10:00). Possible topics for future meetings were discussed,
relating to a more structured format. Alternative meeting places are
being considered, which allow free access to wireless internet. An
ad-hoc wireless network was also found to be a possibility. Various
methods of generating interest in the LUG were brought up, including
demonstrations and live cds. An RSS feed for the forum is being
considered. |
